Dhaka Regional Phase of 8th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad held

The Dhaka regional phase of the 8th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad was held in Dhaka to select the Bangladesh team for the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO 2022). This event was held with more than 500 students under 16 years of age from class III to XI. The aim of this year's Olympiad is to attend the 19th International Junior Science Olympiad to be held in Colombia. Today, the Dhaka Regional Phase was organized at Lake Circus Girls’ High School. The program of the regional phase started from 8:30 in the morning with the national anthem. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Headmaster of Lake Circus Girls’ High School inaugurated the event by flying balloons with the students present at the event. Bangladesh Science Popularization Association Vice President Munir Hasan, Bangladesh Freedom Foundation Chairman Sajjadur Rahman Chowdhury and Al-Arafah Islami Bank Senior Vice President and Chief Public Relations Officer Jalal Ahmed were present at the event. About five hundred students from a total of 30 schools in Dhaka participated in the regional phase of Dhaka. Munir Hasan, vice-president of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association, said that the purpose of organizing the Olympiad is not only to take exams, but the participating students also got an opportunity to get to know each other. The result of Dhaka regional round will be given soon on the website of Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (www.bdjso.org). Based on the results, the selected candidates will get the opportunity to participate in the national phase of Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad. The question pattern of International Junior Science Olympiad has been followed while asking the questions of the regional stages held in this year's 8th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad. The International Junior Science Olympiad tests the problem-solving skills of secondary school students under the age of 16 in physics, chemistry and biology. Besides, an eOlympiad will be held online on September 11 with the students of those regions where regional Olympiads have not taken place. Registration information for the eOlympiad is available at bdjso.org/eOlympiad. Earlier, the regional phase was held in Chittagong and Netrakona. This year's regional phase of BDJSO was held in three divisions and one district city of the country. Apart from this, School Olympiad was held in 3 schools of Birol upazila, Gopalganj and Tangail Sadar of Dinajpur on 31st August, 1st and 8th September 2022. About two thousand students participated in these two regional stages and three school Olympiads. BDJSO is jointly organized by Science Popularization Society of Bangladesh (SPSB), Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and National Science and Technology Museum. The title sponsor of the event is Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited. Dainik Prothom Alo and Maksudul Alam Laboratory are partners. Magazine partners are Kishore Alo and Bigyanchinta. Local organizers are Science Club Mason, Abaya and Khulna District Unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
